Löfstad Castle is an historic setting with many treasures. The castle was built in 1660, and even today there are objects and details preserved from that time. In 1750 the castle burned and only the south wing was saved. During the reconstruction, Löfstad got its current appearance, the three floors were retained as well as the 17th-century portals
The castle has been inhabited by the same family for nine generations. It was built by the nobleman Axel Lillie. The last owner, Emilie Piper, died in 1926 and left the castle untouched to be managed by Östergötlands museum. Everything remains as she left it: artwork, furniture, curtains, clothes, objects, linen and crockery.
Here there is a castle garden to walk in, a castle shop, an inn and a trade garden with an associated café. Löfstad Castle is a unique experience, both inside and outside the castle building - a peep hole that takes you around 100 years back in time.
Löfstad Castle is, apart from the main building in Linköping, Östergötlands museum's greatest attraction. The castle is located along the E4 between Norrköping and Linköping.
