1800-tal

Fotografi på soffa, 1800-tal

In the second half of the 1800s artists began to paint outdoors. They wanted to compete with the camera that had started to grow common. Eventually, a consequence was that art became more free in its expression. In Europe, nationalism gained ground which later led to terrible consequences.

Around the turn of the century in 1800, it was Christmas baking in the artist Pehr Hörberg´s home. Pehr would watch the bread while his wife was away. The bread was burnt and his wife became furious. Pehr decided to spend Christmas with the Baron De Geer in Finspong instead. The music, polska, below was written by Horberg on his journey to the Baron.

The polska is recorded by the museum and published under cc0 pd. Katarina Ingberg plays the violin.
